A’s Brent Rooker to lead youth baseball camp today in south Sacramento
A’s designated hitter Brent Rooker is set to host a youth baseball training camp Thursday afternoon in Sacramento, offering young athletes a chance to train with one of Major League Baseball’s top power hitters.
The three-hour camp will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at Army Depot Park in south Sacramento. Organizers expect around 150 participants between the ages of 6 and 17, along with their families.
While the event will include instruction on hitting, fielding and baserunning, it also aims to promote confidence, wellness and leadership, according to the camp’s organizers. Rooker, who has tallied 75 RBIs and 26 home runs so far this season, will lead the camp alongside experienced coaches.
“More than just a skills clinic, it’s designed to inspire wellness, teamwork, and leadership in local youth — directly alongside one of the A’s top players,” organizers said.
Rooker represented the Athletics in the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby in July, launching 17 homers in the first round, including a 471-foot blast. He narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals.
He’s batting .269 on the season and has been surging in August with three home runs and 13 RBIs ahead of this weekend’s series against the Texas Rangers at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.
