White Sox pull off odd triple play
The Chicago White Sox pulled off their first triple play in nearly 10 years in unique fashion in the seventh inning of Friday night’s 5-0 win over visiting Texas.
With the bases loaded and no outs, right fielder Adam Eaton made a running catch of Mitch Moreland’s drive down the line as the runners took off.
Eaton fired to first. Jose Abreu at first missed Ian Desmond, but Desmond overran the bag and was eventually tagged out in foul territory.
But Saladino then saw Prince Fielder break from third, and threw home. Third baseman Todd Frazier eventually tagged Fielder in a rundown to finish the 9-3-2-6-2-5 play.
It was the first triple play for the White Sox since Sept. 18, 2006, against Detroit.
