Update: Kings forward Marvin Bagley III’s foot injury will keep him benched for weeks
Kings forward Marvin Bagley III is still weeks away from being ready to return from the foot injury that has sidelined him for most of the past two months.
The team announced Thursday that Bagley recently incorporated stationary shooting and partial weight-bearing conditioning activities into his rehabilitation regimen. He is also running in water and using an antigravity treadmill.
The Kings said Bagley is continuing to progress through the reconditioning process under the supervision of team physicians in coordination with Dr. Martin O’Malley, a foot specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The team told The Sacramento Bee it is using a “criteria-based approach” to determine Bagley’s readiness to return to game action. The organization is committed to take a cautious approach while prioritizing Bagley’s long-term health.
O’Malley recently confirmed that Bagley aggravated the left midfoot sprain he suffered in late December. Bagley missed eight games due to the initial injury. He returned to play four games but he has missed the past 11 after aggravating the injury.
Bagley previously missed 22 games with a broken thumb suffered in the season opener against the Phoenix Suns. He has appeared in only 13 games this season, averaging 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds.
The Kings said they will provide another update on Bagley’s condition in three weeks. There are eight weeks left in the regular season.
