Kings announce new plans to assist arena workers impacted by coronavirus shutdown
The Kings are broadening their efforts to assist team and Golden 1 Center employees through the financial uncertainty associated with the coronavirus outbreak.
Many employees have been out of work since sporting events and concerts were canceled or postponed in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Kings and their partners announced Thursday they are going a step further than previously stated to help workers during the coronavirus shutdown.
The organization is partnering with Legends Hospitality, ABM, Fanatics and SAMMCO to provide compensation to their employees who work at Golden 1 Center through the end of March. The Kings previously announced they would pay about 800 part-time, hourly Kings event employees who were previously scheduled to work at 12 Golden 1 Center events in March, including Kings home games, concerts, NCAA Tournament games and CIF high school basketball championships.
Thursday’s announcement ensures 1,400 Kings and arena employees will be paid until the end of the month, the team said.
The Kings said they intend to resume full staffing levels when Golden 1 Center is cleared to reopen by public health officials. In the meantime, they are working with Raley’s Supermarkets to prioritize their part-time event staffers for temporary eCommerce job opportunities, including grocery delivery.
“We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and understanding of our dedicated team members as we face this unprecedented time together,” the Kings said.
