Source: New Orleans Pelicans’ Trajan Langdon declines to interview for Kings GM job

The Kings are working diligently in their search for a new general manager to find the right person for the job, but they won’t get to interview everyone on their wish list.

New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon was one of six candidates Sacramento formally requested permission to interview. Langdon has informed the Kings he will not be involved in their search, sources told The Sacramento Bee on Wednesday, confirming a report from The Athletic’s Will Guillory.

Langdon, 44, just completed his first season as general manager in New Orleans, where he works under team president David Griffin. Langdon previously served as assistant general manager of the Brooklyn Nets and was named the 2018-19 NBA G League Basketball Executive of the Year for his work with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate. Prior to his work with the Nets, Langdon worked with Griffin in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ front office.

Five names remain on the list of candidates the Kings have requested permission to interview: Miami Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon; Minnesota Timberwolves executive vice president Sachin Gupta; Denver Nuggets GM Calvin Booth; Houston Rockets assistant GM Monte McNair; and former Atlanta Hawks GM Wes Wilcox.

The Kings are seeking a replacement for former general manager Vlade Divac, who resigned in August after five seasons as the team’s head of basketball operations.

Sacramento’s search is being led by Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, interim executive vice president of basketball operations Joe Dumars and Sportsology CEO Mike Forde’s executive search firm. Interviews are expected to begin next week.
