Former Sacramento Kings broadcaster Grant Napear filed a wrongful termination lawsuit in Sacramento federal court against the owner of KHTK-AM 1140, Salt Lake City-based Bonneville International, more than a year after he was terminated from the station following a controversial tweet at the height of the George Floyd protests.

Napear alleges in the suit filed by Sacramento attorney Matthew J. Ruggles that the venerable sports talk radio host and decades-long television voice of the Kings suffered emotional distress, a loss of wages, humiliation and public shame when Bonneville International Corp. dumped Napear from the airwaves in June 2020.

In December, Napear’s lawyers amended the lawsuit, saying the station fired Napear after the Kings voted to cut ties with the broadcaster.
