Injury update on Kings’ Richaun Holmes; Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma upgraded after COVID-19 case?
The Kings have lost three in a row with Richaun Holmes out of the lineup due to an eye injury and they don’t expect him to return for Wednesday’s game against the Washington Wizards.
The Kings (11-17) updated Holmes’ status on their injury report Tuesday as they prepared to open a three-game homestand against the Wizards (15-13) on Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center. The Kings listed Holmes as doubtful, meaning they will likely have to end their losing streak with their starting center out for the fourth game in a row.
Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma could miss his third game in a row for the Wizards, who have lost five of their last six after going 14-8 to start the season. Kuzma has missed the past two games due to NBA health and safety protocols, but he was upgraded to questionable Tuesday.
Kuzma, who is averaging 13.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, entered the league’s health and safety protocols Saturday. Any player who tests positive for COVID-19 is required to miss a minimum of 10 days or produce two negative tests in a span of at least 24 hours before they can be cleared to return.
Holmes has been out since suffering a right eye laceration in a 142-130 victory over the Orlando Magic on Dec. 8. The Kings lost all three games, falling 124-123 to the Charlotte Hornets, 117-103 to the Cleveland Cavaliers and 124-101 to the Toronto Raptors. The Kings are 2-4 in games Holmes has missed this season.
Holmes is having another career year with the Kings. He is averaging 14.0 points and a career-high 9.3 rebounds while shooting a career-best 70.7% from the field. Holmes is second in the NBA in true shooting percentage (.737) and third in field-goal percentage.
