Beloved Kings radio play-by-play announcer Gary Gerould, 81, tests positive for COVID-19
Beloved Kings radio play-by-play announcer Gary Gerould was placed under NBA health and safety protocols Sunday after testing positive for COVID-19.
Gerould, 81, disclosed his positive test result on Twitter after calling the Kings’ 115-113 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday at Golden 1 Center.
“Great to see Kings start new year with a win … not so great to learn I’ve had a positive Covid test,” Gerould tweeted. “So Health and Safety Protocols has gained another new recruit. Thankful symptoms are mild.”
Gerould, who is affectionately known as G-Man, is in his 37th season as the radio voice of the Kings. He has called Kings games on radio since the franchise moved to Sacramento in 1985.
Gerould is the latest member of the Kings organization to contract the virus amid the team’s first major outbreak since the start of the pandemic. Interim coach Alvin Gentry, De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley III, Davion Mitchell, Terence Davis, Alex Len, Louis King and Neemias Queta have all missed time recently due to health and safety protocols.
Kings public address announcer Scott Moak left Wednesday’s 117-11 victory over the Dallas Mavericks after learning he had tested positive for the virus. Moak said he is asymptomatic and “feeling fine,” but he was still away from the team Sunday under the league’s protocol system.
