Kings center Richaun Holmes clears COVID-19 protocols. Will he play Wednesday vs. Lakers?
Kings center Richaun Holmes could return to the lineup soon after clearing NBA health and safety protocols Tuesday, but he is not expected to play against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center.
A league source told The Sacramento Bee that Holmes will be assigned to the G League Stockton Kings for practice time and reconditioning after missing the past six games due to COVID-19 protocols. Holmes will be listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Lakers, the source said, setting up a possible return against the Houston Rockets on Friday.
Holmes has missed 16 of Sacramento’s last 25 games due to illnesses and injuries. The Kings are 5-11 with him out of the lineup.
Holmes missed three games in late November with a right eye contusion and a non-COVID-19-related illness. He missed six more games in mid-December with a right eye laceration. Holmes returned for five games in late December before entering NBA health and safety protocols Jan. 1.
Holmes is averaging 12.6 points and a career-high 8.7 rebounds. He is second in the NBA in field-goal percentage (.637), fourth in true shooting percentage (.669) and sixth in offensive rating (129.9).
