Kings gameday live: Is Alvin Gentry nearing end in Sacramento? Injury updates vs. Rockets
Interim Kings coach Alvin Gentry knows his days in Sacramento could be numbered, but that is a conversation for another day.
Gentry, who was appointed head coach when Luke Walton was fired in November, said he has yet to meet with general manager Monte McNair to discuss his future with the team and the possibility of returning next season.
“There would be no reason whatsoever to discuss it right now,” Gentry said. “The season is going to be over in the next two weeks and then from there, we’ll sit down and talk and figure out the direction that everything should be taken.”
The Kings (28-49) will conclude a five-game road trip when they visit the Houston Rockets on Friday at Toyota Center. Sacramento has won three of its last four, including Wednesday’s 121-118 victory over the Rockets. The Kings have passed the Portland Trail Blazers to move within 3 ½ games of the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference.
The Rockets (20-57) are coming off losses to the Spurs and Kings despite back-to-back 30-point games by rookie Jalen Green.
The Kings have ruled out Terence Davis (wrist), De’Aaron Fox (hand), Richaun Holmes (personal) and Domantas Sabonis (knee). Eric Gordon (groin), Dennis Schroder (shoulder) and Christian Wood (hamstring) are out for Houston. Alperen Sengun (leg) is questionable.
The Kings went 6-11 (.353) to start the season before Walton was fired on Nov. 21. They have gone 22-38 (.367) with Gentry serving as interim head coach.
