Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham is one of several candidates in the Kings’ coaching search, but they are not the only ones who have taken an interest in him.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Friday the Los Angeles Lakers have requested permission to interview Ham as they seek a replacement for former coach Frank Vogel.

Ham, 48, has been identified as one of seven known candidates in Sacramento, where a first round of virtual interviews is underway. Other candidates include Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown; Brooklyn Nets coaching consultant Steve Clifford; New Orleans Pelicans coaching advisor Mike D’Antoni; Bucks assistant Charles Lee; Boston Celtics assistant Will Hardy; and ESPN analyst Mark Jackson.

Ham started his coaching career with the G League Albuquerque Thunderbirds from 2008-11. He worked as an assistant with the Lakers under Brown, Bernie Bickerstaff and D’Antoni from 2011-13.

Ham joined Mike Budenholzer’s staff with the Atlanta Hawks in 2013. Kings assistant general manager Wes Wilcox, who served as assistant general manager, general manager and special advisor to the Hawks from 2012-20, was part of the Hawks front office that hired Budenholzer in 2013.

Ham went to Milwaukee with Budenholzer when the Bucks hired him in 2018. They won a championship together last season. Ham was previously a head coaching candidate for the Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers.
