Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown knew he would be an NBA head coach again soon after being hired by the Kings, but he will get his next head coaching opportunity even sooner than he thought.

The Warriors announced Brown will serve as acting head coach in Game 4 of Golden State’s Western Conference semifinal series against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night at Chase Center in San Francisco after Steve Kerr tested positive for COVID-19.

The Kings reached an agreement on a four-year deal with Brown on Sunday and formally announced the hire Monday. Brown is in his sixth season as associate head coach of the Warriors, where he serves as Kerr’s lead assistant. Brown will remain with the Warriors through the end of their playoff run, sources told The Sacramento Bee.

The Warriors hold a 2-1 lead over the Grizzlies in their best-of-7 series. Brown has an 11-0 playoff record with the Warriors after filling in for Kerr for 11 games during the 2017 playoffs.

Brown has a career record of 347-216 (.616) with six playoff appearances in eight seasons as a head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers. He went to the NBA Finals as a head coach with the Cavaliers and served as an assistant for NBA championship teams with the San Antonio Spurs (2003) and Warriors (2017, 2018).
