Sources: Sacramento Kings finalize deals with three members of Mike Brown’s coaching staff
The Kings have reached agreements with three assistant coaches who will serve under new head coach Mike Brown when he concludes his duties with the Golden State Warriors.
Sources told The Sacramento Bee on Friday the Kings had finalized deals with assistants Jay Triano, Doug Christie and Luke Loucks. The pending hires were first reported weeks ago by Substack’s Marc Stein and Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, but contracts weren’t completed until this week, sources said.
The Kings previously announced they had hired Denver Nuggets assistant Jordi Fernandez as associate head coach, but team officials would not confirm other additions to Brown’s staff at that time. Brown and the Kings assembled their staff while Brown was completing his work with the Warriors, who are facing the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.
Triano, 63, is a veteran coach with 20 years of NBA experience. He held head coaching jobs with the Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns and worked as an assistant with the Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Suns and Charlotte Hornets.
Christie, 52, is entering his second season as a Kings assistant after working under Luke Walton and Alvin Gentry last season. He is the first known holdover to be retained from last year’s staff. Stein reported that keeping Christie on staff was stipulated as a top priority during the team’s coaching search, which ended when the Kings reached a four-year deal with Brown on May 9.
Loucks, 32, previously worked in basketball strategy and personnel evaluation for the Suns. Brown and Loucks have worked together before, first with the Warriors and again when Brown added Loucks to his staff with the Nigerian national team.
