NBA draft buzz: Potential top-10 pick stops in Sacramento for pre-draft workout with Kings
The Kings received a visit Sunday from a player who is projected as a potential top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
Baylor forward Jeremy Sochan posted a photo to his Instagram story, listing his location as Sacramento. The photo appeared to be taken inside a room at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel, which is just steps away from Golden 1 Center.
A league source confirmed to The Sacramento Bee late Sunday night that Sochan was, in fact, in Sacramento for a pre-draft workout with the Kings. Sochan’s visit came two days after sources said the Kings were bringing G League Ignite shooting guard Dyson Daniels in for a workout. Daniels and Sochan are considered two of the best defenders in this year’s draft.
The Kings have the No. 4, No. 37 and No. 49 picks in the draft, which will be held June 23 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Sochan and Daniels might be considered a reach at No. 4, but the Kings are leaving no stone unturned amid speculation they could trade up, trade down or package the pick as part of a bigger deal to acquire an established star.
Sochan, 19, is a 6-foot-9, 230-pound small forward/power forward. He averaged 9.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 25.1 minutes per game as a freshman at Baylor. He had 15 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in a season-ending loss to North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Sochan is the second-ranked small forward in the draft behind Duke’s AJ Griffin, according to Tankathon.com. The website currently projects him as the No. 10 pick.
