Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown wins another NBA championship with Golden State Warriors
In the days to come, Mike Brown will make the move to Sacramento to assume his new role as head coach of the Kings, but tonight he will savor another NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 103-90 in Game 6 on Thursday at TD Garden to win their fourth championship in eight years. Brown was a part of three of those teams over the past six seasons as Steve Kerr’s top assistant.
The Kings hired Brown as their head coach on May 9 with the stipulation that he would fulfill his playoff duties before relinquishing his role as associate head coach of the Warriors. Brown has already worked with the Kings organization to assemble a coaching staff that will include Jordi Fernandez, Jay Triano, Luke Loucks and Doug Christie.
Brown joined the Warriors in 2016 as a replacement for Luke Walton, who was leaving to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, Brown is coming to Sacramento to take over as head coach of the Kings after Walton was fired last season.
“Mike has consistently demonstrated his ability to lead winning teams throughout his long and successful coaching career,” Kings general manager Monte McNair said after hiring Brown. “He has worked with some of the best players in the NBA and is one of the league’s premier defensive minds. I am excited to bring his extensive experience to Sacramento.”
The Kings finalized a four-year deal with Brown on May 9 as the Warriors were in the early stages of their playoff run. Brown has a 347-216 (.616) record with six playoff appearances in eight seasons as a head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers. He went to the NBA Finals as head coach of the Cavaliers and served as an assistant for NBA championship teams with the San Antonio Spurs (2003) and Warriors (2017, 2018, 2022).
