Sacramento Kings officially announce signing of former UC Davis standout Chima Moneke
Kings general manager Monte McNair officially announced the signing of former UC Davis standout Chima Moneke on Monday.
Sources told The Sacramento Bee the Kings had reached an agreement with Moneke on Friday. The team formally announced the deal after returning from the Las Vegas Summer League.
Moneke, 26, is a 6-6, 223-pound forward who earned All-Big West Conference honorable mention in 2017-18. He went undrafted out of UC Davis in 2018 after averaging 18.3 points and 9.6 rebounds while shooting 51.3% from the field and 37.5% from 3-point range. He has played professionally in France and Spain.
Moneke will provide the Kings with wing depth. He also adds to the team’s growing Nigerian flavor.
Kings coach Mike Brown coached the Nigerian national team at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. Kings forwards Chimezie Metu and KZ Okpala were part of that team. Moneke didn’t play in the Olympic Games but was part of the preliminary squad that took down Team USA in an exhibition prior to the Olympics.
Sources said the Kings have also reached an agreement with Okpala, 23, but that signing has not been officially announced.
