Gameday live: Injury reports for Sacramento Kings preseason opener vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The Kings will likely face four-time MVP LeBron James and eight-time All-Star Anthony Davis when they visit the Los Angeles Lakers in Monday’s preseason opener at Crypto.com Arena.
James, an 18-time All-Star entering his 20th NBA season, was not listed on the injury report the Lakers provided Sunday. Davis was listed as probable despite dealing with lower back tightness.
Three players have been ruled out for Los Angeles. Troy Brown Jr. is out with lower back soreness. Lonnie Walker IV is out with a left ankle sprain. Dennis Schroder is not with the team.
Kings coach Mike Brown said his team did not have any injuries following Saturday’s practice in Sacramento. The Kings said they had no injuries to report Sunday evening after making their way to Los Angeles.
This is the first of four preseason games the Kings will play in preparation for the 2022-23 season. They will play host to the Portland Trail Blazers at Golden 1 Center on Sunday and visit the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 12 before concluding preseason play against the Lakers on Oct. 14 in Sacramento.
Kings-Lakers connections
Both sides will see some familiar faces when the Kings visit the Lakers.
Lakers forward Wenyen Gabriel played for the Kings in 2019-20 and center Damian Jones played for the Kings from 2020-22. Kings guard Malik Monk and forward Kent Bazemore both played for the Lakers last season.
Lineup/rotation
Brown discussed his plans for the starting lineup following Saturday’s practice, saying point guard De’Aaron Fox, small forward Harrison Barnes and center Domantas Sabonis will start for the Kings.
Brown said the shooting guard and power forward positions are somewhat undecided. Kevin Huerter, Monk and Terence Davis are competing at shooting guard. Rookie Keegan Murray, Trey Lyles, Chimezie Metu and KZ Okpala are competing at power forward.
Brown said he will likely use a nine- or 10-man rotation during the regular season, but in the preseason opener against the Lakers he is hoping to find minutes for all 20 players on Sacramento’s roster.
