Kings-Hornets gameday live: Latest on LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Cody Martin injuries

Note: Come back to this story throughout the day for the latest news, notes and injury updates on today’s game.

The Kings have a clean bill of health as they prepare to open a four-game road trip against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday at Spectrum Center. The Hornets aren’t quite as fortunate.

The Kings (1-4) will be seeking their second win in a row after beating the Miami Heat on Saturday in Sacramento. The Hornets (3-3) are coming off a 120-113 overtime win over the Golden State Warriors.

LaMelo Ball is still sidelined after suffering a Grade 2 left ankle sprain during the preseason. Ball is believed to be nearing a return after going through a pregame workout prior to Saturday’s game against the Warriors, but he has been ruled out against Sacramento.

The Hornets listed guard Terry Rozier as doubtful due to a right ankle sprain. Small forward Cody Martin is doubtful with left quad soreness.

Ball averaged 20.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.6 assists last season after being named Rookie of the year in 2020-21. Rozier, Charlotte’s leading scorer, averaged 23.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists in two games against the San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans before injuring his ankle.

The Hornets proved to be formidable against Golden State despite the absences of Ball, Rozier and Martin, not to mention Miles Bridges, who remains unsigned while facing felony charges in Los Angeles in a domestic violence case. P.J. Washington had 31 points in the win over the Warriors. Gordon Hayward had 23 points. Dennis Smith Jr. flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 13 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Ruled out

The Hornets have ruled Martin and Rozier out for Monday’s game against the Kings. The Hornets will likely start Smith and Kelly Oubre Jr. in the backcourt with Hayward, Washington and Mason Plumlee in the frontcourt.
