Note: Come back to this story throughout the day for the latest news, notes and injury updates on today’s game.
Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox isn’t just hitting big shots. At this early stage in the NBA season, he’s making a higher percentage of all of his shots.
Fox will put his improved shooting to the test against one of the game’s greats when the Kings (3-5) conclude a four-game road trip against the Golden State Warriors (3-7) on Monday at Chase Center in San Francisco.
The Kings have won three of their last four after going 0-4 to start the season. The Warriors have lost five in a row.
Fox scored a season-high 37 points in a 126-123 overtime victory over the Orlando Magic on Saturday. He capped his performance with a game-winning 3-pointer from midcourt as time expired, setting off a wild celebration in the visitor’s locker room at Amway Center in Orlando.
Fox is averaging career highs of 26.3 points and 5.9 rebounds along with 4.6 assists and 0.9 steals. He is shooting a career-best 55.5% from the field, 36.8% from 3-point range and 87.5% at the free-throw line, which is also a career high. He is 21 of 21 at the line over the last five games.
Fox has an effective field-goal percentage of .609. He ranks second in the NBA behind only Warriors star Stephen Curry (.610) among players averaging at least 21.0 points per game.
Curry, an eight-time All-Star, four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP, is averaging 31.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.8 assists in his 14th season. He is shooting 48.7% from the field, 41.4% from 3-point range and 94.4% at the free-throw line.
Curry missed Friday’s 114-105 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans due to left elbow soreness. Klay Thompson (right Achilles tendon injury management), Draymond Green (lower back management) and Andrew Wiggins (left foot soreness) were also held out. None of them were listed on Golden State’s injury report Sunday, suggesting all four will be available against the Kings.
