How Kings’ City Edition uniform honors Sacramento triumph in saving team from relocation
The Kings will debut their new City Edition uniforms when they play host to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday at Golden 1 Center.
The uniform was designed to pay homage to the city of Sacramento and Kings fans, who came together during the relocation saga a decade ago to secure the team’s future in Sacramento.
“We designed the City Edition uniform to honor our fans, whose passion and connection to their team is unmatched in the NBA,” Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart said in a news release. “Their efforts to keep the Kings in Sacramento forever changed the landscape of the city, and the team never forgets where they are from and who they are playing for!”
The 2022-23 NBA season marks the 10-year anniversary of the fight to keep the Kings in Sacramento. The Kings will wear a gray uniform for the first time in franchise history, a look inspired by their downtown arena.
Team officials said the front of the jersey features the word “Sacramento” set in a 10-year tin anniversary bevel while the trim on the side resembles architectural elements of the state-of-the-art arena.
The words “Sacramento Proud” can be found within the trim on the side of the uniform, representing the team’s connection to the city. The shorts display the same purple architectural designs and the “Sacramento Proud” message.
Team officials point out that the uniform hem features the immortal words of former NBA commissioner David Stern: “We’re going to keep this team in Sacramento.”
The Kings will wear their new City Edition uniforms 15 times throughout the season. The City Edition collection, featuring assorted apparel, including youth jerseys, is available at the Kings Team Store at DOCO and online at KingsTeamStore.com.
