Kings-Wizards gameday live: Updates on Richaun Holmes, Kristaps Porzingis, Deni Avdija
The Kings have already lost one game they expected to win during their current six-game homestand. They will try to avoid a similar letdown when they play host to the Washington Wizards on Friday night at Golden 1 Center.
The Kings (17-13) are seeking their fourth win in five games after handing the Los Angeles Lakers a 134-120 loss on Wednesday. The only player who appeared on the team’s injury report Thursday was Richaun Holmes, who is listed as questionable due to a non-COVID-19 illness.
Kings center Domantas Sabonis has posted nine consecutive double-doubles. He is averaging 20.3 points, 15.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists while shooting 70% from 3-point range in December. De’Aaron Fox, who scored 37 points in Monday’s loss to the Charlotte Hornets, is averaging 23.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
The Wizards (12-21) are coming to Sacramento on the second night of a back-to-back after suffering a 120-112 loss to the Utah Jazz on Thursday in Salt Lake City. The Wizards haven’t submitted an injury report for Friday’s game, but Kristaps Porzingis, Deni Avdija and Delon Wright were out against Utah.
Porzingis, who is averaging 22.4 points and 8.9 rebounds, was out with a non-COVID-19 illness. Avdija, who is averaging 8.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists, was out with lower back soreness. Wright, who hasn’t played since Oct. 25, is out with a right hamstring strain.
The Wizards are led by veteran guard Bradley Beal, a three-time All-Star who is averaging 23.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in his 11th NBA season. Kyle Kuzma, who has been the subject of trade interest in Sacramento in the past, is averaging 21.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
Status update
The Wizards are listing Avdija and Porzingis as questionable for Friday’s game against the Kings. Wright will be available.
