Kings All-Star De’Aaron Fox gets MRI results on wrist injury. How long will he be out?
The Sacramento Kings aren’t expecting to be without All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox for long.
The team said Tuesday that Fox underwent an MRI on his sore left wrist that revealed no significant damage. He could be back as soon as Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Golden 1 Center or Saturday when the Kings host the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fox injured his wrist at some point during Sunday’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was ruled out for Tuesday’s rematch in Oklahoma City, a game the Kings won 123-117.
Fox wore an electronic treatment device on his wrist on the bench during Tuesday’s game. After last playing Sunday, Fox will have at least four days of rest before his next appearance after making his first All-Star game earlier in February.
“It was just how he felt and what we thought of how he felt,” Kings head coach Mike Brown said of the decision to sit Fox on Tuesday. “And then knowing, at the end of the day, our team is deep and in situations like this, guys are going to have to step up and perform, and that’s what happened tonight.”
Second-year pro Davion Mitchell started in Fox’s place, scoring 15 points and earning defensive player of the game honors from the coaching staff, in part, for drawing a series of offensive fouls. He also had a block, a steal, and finished plus-17 during his 33 minutes on the floor.
Mitchell hit a 3-pointer and long jump shot inside the final minute to help seal the victory.
Fox is averaging a career-best 25.4 points per game. He has scored at least 30 in nine of his last 10 games, including seven in a row, a Sacramento-era franchise record.
