Kings-Clippers gameday live: Status updates on De’Aaron Fox, Kawhi Leonard, Norman Powell
The Kings will face the Los Angeles Clippers in a rematch from last week’s epic double-overtime shootout when they open a four-game homestand on Friday at Golden 1 Center, but they won’t have to deal with Kawhi Leonard this time.
Leonard told reporters he expected to sit out on the second night of a back-to-back in Sacramento following a 115-91 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday in San Francisco. The five-time All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP has appeared in just 38 games this season due to injuries and injury management.
The Clippers officially announced shortly after 1 p.m. Friday that Leonard has been ruled out due to right knee injury management. Norman Powell is out with a left elbow contusion. Marcus Morris Sr. is out with a left elbow contusion.
The Kings (36-25) will be looking for the fifth win in a row. They are third in the Western Conference, two games behind the No. 2 Memphis Grizzlies and three games ahead of the fourth-place Phoenix Suns.
The Clippers (33-32) have lost four in a row to fall to seventh in the West, a half-game behind the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 6 seed.
Sacramento is listing De’Aaron Fox and Richaun Holmes as questionable against the Clippers. Fox is still experiencing left wrist soreness after missing Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he practiced Thursday and said he expects to play Friday. Holmes has a non-COVID-19 illness.
Update
Fox will be available for Friday’s game against the Clippers. Holmes has been ruled out.
