Pacers All-Star Tyrese Haliburton will miss game against Kings due to hamstring injury

Budding NBA star and former Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton will be sidelined due to injury when the Indiana Pacers come to Sacramento next week.

The Pacers announced Tuesday that an MRI showed Haliburton has a strained left hamstring. Haliburton was carried off the floor in obvious pain after suffering the injury during Monday’s victory over the Boston Celtics.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the injury is a Grade 1 hamstring strain, adding that Haliburton will be reevaluated in two weeks. Based on that timeline, Haliburton will likely miss a minimum of eight games for the Pacers, including a Jan. 18 game against the Kings at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

The Kings selected Haliburton out of Iowa State with the No. 12 pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He was an NBA All-Rookie First Team selection in 2021 before the Kings traded him to the Pacers in a blockbuster deal that brought Domantas Sabonis to Sacramento.

Haliburton earned his first All-Star selection last season while averaging 20.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists for the Pacers. He could be selected as a starter for this year’s All-Star Game, which will be held Feb. 18 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Haliburton is averaging a career-high 23.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and a career-best 12.5 assists for the Pacers this season. He is shooting 49.7% from the field and 40.3% from 3-point range.
