Who will Sacramento Kings select in the 2024 NBA draft? Here are the latest projections
The 2024 NBA draft is less than three weeks away and the Kings are busy preparing for any number of possibilities.
The Kings are back in the lottery this year after failing to reach the playoffs. They hold the 13th overall pick as well as a second-round pick at No. 45.
Sacramento will explore trade possibilities involving current and future draft picks in an effort to add another key piece to a core that features De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray. General manager Monte McNair, assistant general manager Wes Wilcox and the rest of the front office must improve the roster and coach Mike Brown will be expected to get the team back to the playoffs after ending a 16-year drought in 2023.
A new round of mock drafts have the Kings selecting a number of different players with the No. 13 pick. Here are the latest projections.
The Ringer
Dalton Knecht, Tennessee
SF | 6-6 ½ | 212 | 23
Knecht averaged 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists as a senior at Tennessee. He shot 45.8% from the field and 39.7% from 3-point range on 6.5 attempts per game.
The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor writes: “The Kings don’t exactly need more offense, but Knecht was a devastating scorer at the college level and could become a cheaper replacement for, and potential upgrade over, Kevin Huerter. And then the Kings could move Huerter’s salary in a deal that nets defense.”
Associated Press
Devin Carter, Providence
PG | 6-3 ½ | 193 | 22
Carter averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks as a junior at Providence. He shot 47.3% from the field and 37.7% from 3-point range on 5.3 attempts per game. He has tremendous length at the point guard spot with a 6-8 ¾ wingspan.
The Associated Press writes: “The 6-3 guard has a massive wingspan and vertical leap, which helped allow him (to) make a big jump from 13 points to 19.7 last season. Carter has a high basketball IQ, is a hard-nosed defender and an excellent rebounder for a guard. The son of former NBA player Anthony Carter, he was the Big East player of the year in a league that included Clingan and Castle.”
Yahoo Sports
Kyshawn George, Miami
G/F | 6-8 | 200 | 20
George averaged 7.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.9 steals as a freshman at Tennessee. He shot just 42.6% from the field but made 40.8% from 3-point range on 4.2 attempts per game.
Yahoo Sports writes: “George is one of the most promising wings in this class with how well he shoots from 3-point range and his potential as a 3-and-D wing in the NBA.”
Tankathon
Ja’Kobe Walter, Baylor
SG | 6-5 ½ |198 | 19
Walter averaged 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals as a freshman at Baylor. He has impressive length with a 6-10 wingspan, but he will need to become a more efficient scorer after shooting 37.6% from the field and 34.1% from 3-point range.
The Ringer projects Walter as the No. 19 pick, writing: “Walter had an up-and-down freshman campaign at Baylor, but still retains two-way potential that would make him a worthy bet if he slips this far.”
