Jae Crowder lights the beam and Kings fans react after rousing debut vs. Timberwolves
Kings fans were all atwitter on social media after Jae Crowder made a memorable debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
Crowder joined in the excitement, too, sending a message to fans after the Kings rallied from a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Timberwolves 115-104 at Target Center in Minneapolis, snapping a four-game losing streak.
“HEY GUYS YOU HEARD THAT??” Crowder tweeted. “LIGHT THE BEAM.!!!!”
Kings fans responded en masse, flooding Crowder’s comments with messages of appreciation and support.
X user @Just1nvest tweeted: “Welcome to Sac Town my guy!! You got that DAWG in you, we need that toughness. Now let’s get back to winning!”
Another X user, @GordonGeco, tweeted: “Bossman!!! You’re exactly what we need on this team! Thank you and welcome to Sactown! Light the Beam!!!”
Others tweeted: “You might have just saved our season,” and “You the man. Thank you for coming to Sacramento.”
Crowder arrived in Minneapolis at 11 p.m. Tuesday after news surfaced earlier in the day that he was close to signing a free agent contract with the Kings. Crowder attended the team’s morning shootaround, but he couldn’t participate because the deal wasn’t finalized.
Kings coach Mike Brown made a somewhat surprising move in Minnesota, inserting Crowder into the starting lineup less than four hours after the Kings officially announced the signing.
Crowder made his presence felt with energy, toughness and attitude, exchanging words with Julius Randle and mixing it up with Minnesota fans. He scored eight points with four rebounds and one steal, making 3 of 5 field-goal attempts and 2 of 4 from 3-point range.
Kings fans were amused by the fact that the Kings had to use a photo of Crowder in a Bucks uniform when they shared their starting lineup on social media.

Crowder capped a memorable debut by earning the team’s coveted defensive player of the game crown after guarding Randle and reigning Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid.
