Will DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Huerter play in Kings vs. Spurs game? Here’s what we know
One player appears to be on the verge of a return but another will likely be sidelined due to injury when the Kings play the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
Six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan was a full participant in Saturday’s practice after missing the past two games with lower back muscle inflammation. DeRozan is expected to be listed as probable for Sunday’s game when the team submits its injury report to the league office.
Huerter did not participate in Saturday’s practice after rolling his right ankle in Friday’s 115-106 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. He is expected to be listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game.
The Kings (9-11) have lost five of six and eight of their last 12 after going 5-3 to start the season. They have been besieged by injuries in recent weeks with DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis, Malik Monk, Huerter and Trey Lyles all missing time.
The Spurs (10-9) won four in a row before suffering a 119-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. The win streak included impressive wins over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors.
The Kings would welcome the return of DeRozan, who has been in and out of the lineup recently. DeRozan missed three games in mid-November with lower back tightness. He returned to play three games before the injury flared up following Monday’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
DeRozan is averaging 22.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in his first season with the Kings. He is shooting 50.8% from the field, 29.4% from 3-point range and 82% at the free-throw line.
