Sacramento Kings guard suffers new injury to surgically repaired shoulder. How bad is it?
Kings guard Kevin Huerter reinjured his surgically repaired left shoulder during Thursday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
An MRI showed Huerter suffered a minor AC joint sprain. He is considered day-to-day as the Kings prepare to face the Denver Nuggets on Monday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The injury occurred when Huerter was fouled by Yves Missi with 5:25 to play in the third quarter of Thursday’s 111-109 victory over the Pelicans at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Huerter finished with seven points in 28 minutes, going 2 of 10 from the field and 1 of 8 from 3-point range.
Huerter is averaging 9.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and a career-low 31.1% from 3-point range. Huerter seemed to be finding a rhythm as a reserve recently after Malik Monk moved into the starting lineup.
In the two previous games against the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz, Huerter averaged 21.0 points, making 16 of 21 (.762) field-goal attempts and 10 of 13 (.769) from long distance. He had a season-high 26 points in a 141-97 victory over Utah, going 10 of 14 from the field and 6 of 9 from beyond the arc.
Huerter spent seven months recovering from a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the end of the 2023-24 season. He underwent surgery after suffering a dislocated left shoulder and torn labrum in a March 18 game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The injury caused him to miss the last 15 games of the regular season and two play-in games.
