LeBron James breaks another NBA record in Los Angeles Lakers’ win over Sacramento Kings
LeBron James set another NBA record while leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 113-100 victory over the Kings on Thursday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
Austin Reaves scored 25 points for the Lakers (15-12). Anthony Davis had 20 points and 21 rebounds. James finished with 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
De’Aaron Fox scored 26 points to lead the Kings (13-15). Domantas Sabonis had 18 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.
The Kings will be back in action when they play host to the Lakers again on Saturday.
LeBron’s longevity
James went into the game having played 57,437 regular-season minutes over 22 NBA seasons, just nine shy of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 57,446 minutes. James broke that record early in the second quarter.
James, who made his NBA debut in Sacramento on Oct. 29, 2003, became the NBA’s career scoring leader last season, breaking Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 38,387 points.
Injury report
Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter were cleared to play after being listed as questionable for the Kings.
Sabonis was dealing with a back contusion after taking a hard fall in Monday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets. Murray (left ankle soreness) and Huerter (left shoulder AC joint sprain) returned after missing Monday’s game.
Trey Lyles missed his 10th consecutive game with a right calf strain. Lyles was initially expected to be available, but he was ruled out after experiencing soreness Thursday morning.
Halftime report
The Kings trailed 15-2 after getting off to one of their notoriously slow starts. They staged a 13-2 run in the second quarter to take their first lead of the game on a 3-pointer by Monk, but the Lakers reclaimed the lead and carried a 62-58 advantage into the halftime break.
Second-half skid
The game was tied when Fox went to the bench with his fifth foul with 6:47 to play in the third quarter. The Lakers led 86-80 at the end of the third and went up by nine at the start of the fourth.
The Kings got within five on a driving layup by Fox with 6:25 remaining, but an 8-0 run put the Lakers up by 13.
