Sacramento Kings rookie will make highly anticipated NBA debut against his father’s team
Rookie Devin Carter could make his NBA with his father sitting on the opposing bench when the Kings face the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
A league source told The Sacramento Bee that Carter will be available against the Grizzlies, confirming a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Carter’s father, former NBA player Anthony Carter, is an assistant coach with the Grizzlies.
The Kings selected Devin Carter with the 13th pick in the 2024 NBA draft after he was named Big East Conference Player of the Year at Providence. He missed the first 34 games of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Carter, 22, is 6-3 ½, 193-pound combo guard with a 6-8 ¾ wingspan. He averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 47.3% from the field and 37.7% from 3-point range on 6.9 attempts per game.
Carter has played two games for the G League Stockton Kings since being cleared for unlimited basketball activities. He had 29 points and eight rebounds in a 109-107 win over the Austin Spurs on Saturday. He had 17 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, three blocked shots and two steals in Thursday’s 118-94 victory over the Memphis Hustle.
