Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox might be out vs. Knicks. Here’s how new injury occurred
Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox has played all season with an injury to his left hand. Now, he’s suffering from an injury to his right hand as well.
Fox could be out of the lineup when the Kings visit the New York Knicks on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in the second game of a six-game road trip. The Kings are listing him as questionable due to a right thumb sprain.
Fox sustained the injury during a 132-123 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. He finished with 17 points, five rebounds and six assists but struggled to make shots, going 7 of 24 from the field and 3 of 10 from 3-point range.
Fox told The Sacramento Bee the injury occurred when he was clubbed on the hand by Nuggets center Nikola Jokic.
“Just got hit,” Fox said. “Jokic hit it twice, but it is what it is. One was the first or second quarter. The other was in the fourth quarter.”
When asked if he thought the injury was serious enough to pose a problem moving forward, Fox said: “I’m not sure.”
Fox has been dealing with ligament damage in the pinky finger on his left shooting hand since the preseason. He can’t straighten the finger, but he has been able to play with it taped to his ring finger.
Fox is averaging 25.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 47% from the field and 31.7% from 3-point range. He has struggled with his shot over the past seven games, averaging 18.0 points while shooting 35.9% from the field and 28.9% from beyond the arc.
Keon Ellis will likely start in place of Fox if he is unable to play against the Knicks. The Kings are 7-3 with Ellis in the starting lineup this season.
