De’Aaron Fox says farewell to Sacramento after Kings trade him to the San Antonio Spurs
De’Aaron Fox took to social media Monday to say farewell to Sacramento after the Kings traded him to the San Antonio Spurs.
Fox spent almost eight seasons in Sacramento after the Kings selected him out of Kentucky with the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NBA draft. During that time, Fox got married, started a family and led the Kings to the playoffs, ending the longest postseason drought in NBA history after 16 consecutive losing seasons.
Fox will start a new chapter in life with Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs after the Kings made a three-team trade to acquire Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls, but first he expressed his love for Sacramento in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“I can’t quite find the words to express what I want to say, but thank you,” Fox said. “Coming in as a 19-year-old kid and leaving as a 27-year-old man, I’m grateful I got to spend the beginning of my young adulthood here. The love for the city is unmatched.
“To the fans – y’all deserve the best. I wanted to end my career here and never expected it would end this way, but I’ll always be grateful for your support. Thank you for the love you’ve showed me and my family. Sacramento will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Fans responded with messages of love and support.
