Sacramento Kings guard Keon Ellis leaves game with injury in win over Charlotte Hornets

Kings guard Keon Ellis went down with an injury during a blowout win over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

Ellis left the game in the second quarter and did not return. Interim Kings coach Doug Christie did not have an immediate update on the extent of Ellis’ injury following the game.

“No, as of yet, I do not,” Christie said. “But hopefully for him it’s just not a big deal, but we will see tomorrow how he feels and judge everything from there.”

The Kings will provide an update on Ellis on Tuesday as they prepare to open a four-game road trip against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Ellis hurt his right ankle when he landed on Hornets center Jusuf Nurkic’s foot midway through the second quarter. He initially indicated he wanted to stay in the game, but he was clearly in discomfort and asked to come out a moment later.

Ellis left the game with 5:25 to play in the first half and headed straight to the locker room with the team’s medical staff. He came out for warmups before the second half and remained on the bench at the start of the third quarter, but he ended up going back to the locker room. A short time later, the Kings announced Ellis would not return.

Sources told The Sacramento Bee that Ellis intended to return for the second half, but he experienced an increase in soreness while shooting during the halftime break.
