Sacramento Kings star earns NBA Player of the Week honors for first time in his career
Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday after putting up some impressive numbers.
LaVine averaged 28.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists over the past week while shooting 62.3% from the field and a sizzling 63.6% from 3-point range.
LaVine helped the Kings go 3-0 for the week with wins over the Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets. He scored a season-high 42 points in the win over Charlotte, going 16 of 19 from the field and 8 of 9 from 3-point range.
LaVine was announced as the winner of the award as the Kings prepared to visit the Dallas Mavericks on Monday at American Airlines Center in the third game of a four-game road trip. Other nominees in the Western Conference included the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry; the Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Doncic and LeBron James; the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams; and the Portland Trail Blazers’ Shaedon Sharpe.
This marks the first time in LaVine’s career that he has earned Player of the Week honors. The Kings acquired the two-time All-Star on Feb. 3 in the three-team trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs and Kevin Huerter to the Chicago Bulls.
LaVine, 29, came out of UCLA as the No. 13 pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He spent three seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and nearly nine seasons with the Bulls before coming to Sacramento in February.
Now in his 11th NBA season, LaVine is averaging 23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He is shooting career highs of 50.7% from the field and 43.2% from 3-point range.
