Sacramento Kings fans react strongly to NBC Sports California’s new ‘Fantage Point’ camera
Kings fans loved what they saw from their team in a gutsy win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, but those watching at home were not happy with the view on the team’s television broadcast.
NBC Sports California unveiled a new overhead camera angle — dubbed “Fantage Point” — during the Kings’ 123-119 victory over the Cavaliers on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The Kings pulled off one of their biggest wins of the season, upsetting the top team in the Eastern Conference despite the absences of Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis. The city celebrated the win, but the reaction to the new camera angle was far less favorable.
X user @ohitsbaileyy_ tweeted: “This Fantage Point camera is absolutely horrible. Makes the game unwatchable on the Kings broadcast.”
X user @MrTimSaville felt the same way.
“Agreed!,” he said. “Fantage is the worst! Huge Kings fan, I’m turning this garbage off, off to ESPN to watch Lakers & Nuggets.”
One Kings fans compared the debut of “Fantage Point” to the introduction of “Roy Al,” a Cincinnati Royals-themed mascot who was promptly “shipped back” to Cincinnati during a halftime skit following a negative reaction from Kings fans and players.
X user @_JOTUS tweeted: “Hey Kings fans. What’s going to last longer? RoyAl or Fantage Point?”
Dan Greenberg of Barstool Sports also weighed in, tweeting: “I’m surprised the NBA allows this Fantage Point camera angle the Kings broadcast uses. Horrendous product/viewing experience.”
X user @timlithium praised Kings fans for a rare moment of unity on social media, tweeting: “Can we just appreciate that all of Kings twitter is united for the first time ever over their shared hatred of fantage point?”
