Sacramento Kings sign member of original Beam Team after Malik Monk injury
The Sacramento Kings are bringing back a member of the original Beam Team as they prepare for a likely appearance in the NBA play-in tournament.
A league source told The Sacramento Bee the Kings are signing guard Terence Davis, who spent parts of three seasons in Sacramento from 2021-23. Davis helped the Kings earn the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference in 2022-23, ending the longest playoff drought in NBA history after 16 consecutive losing seasons.
The addition of Davis might suggest Kings guard Malik Monk will miss time after suffering a left calf injury in Monday’s 127-117 victory over the Detroit Pistons. An update on Monk’s injury was expected later Tuesday as the Kings prepare to face the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
Davis has not played in the NBA since appearing in four games during Sacramento’s first-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors in April 2023. He averaged 14.3 points while shooting 40.2% from 3-point range for the G League Wisconsin Herd this season.
Davis, 27, began his career with the Toronto Raptors after going undrafted out of Ole Miss in 2019. He finished sixth in Rookie of the Year voting and was named an All-Rookie Second Team selection after averaging 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the Raptors in 2019-20.
The Kings acquired Davis in a March 2021 trade that sent a 2021 second-round draft pick to Toronto. Davis played for the Kings from 2021-23, averaging 8.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 16.2 minutes over 121 games.
Davis scored a career-high 35 points in a 133-131 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 19, 2022. He had 31 points, nine rebounds and three steals in a 153-121 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 15, 2022.
