Sacramento Kings free agent leaves NBA to join top EuroLeague team
Trey Lyles was a member of the original Beam Team and a key reserve for the Kings over the past three seasons, but his stay in Sacramento is over.
The 29-year-old free agent forward has agreed to a deal with Real Madrid, which has won 38 Spanish league championships and 11 EuroLeague titles.
Lyles came out of Kentucky as the 12th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft. He started his career with the Utah Jazz and spent time with the Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons before coming to Sacramento in the 2022 trade that sent Marvin Bagley III to Detroit.
Lyles appeared in 225 games over three seasons in Sacramento, averaging 7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 19.1 minutes per game. He shot 36.2% from 3-point range for the Kings, providing perimeter shooting, floor spacing and versatility as a power forward who doubled as a small-ball center.
Lyles was a part of the team that won 48 games to secure the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference in 2022-23, ending the longest playoff drought in NBA history after 16 consecutive losing seasons. Lyles put up 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, averaging 21.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 steals per 100 possessions.
