Watch: Fan ejected after confrontation with Westbrook in Kings’ loss to Lakers
A fan was ejected following a confrontation with Sacramento Kings star Russell Westbrook during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Westbrook scored 13 points to pass Dominique Wilkins for 16th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list in a 125-101 loss to the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The confrontation occurred during a coach’s challenge with 1:52 to play in the fourth quarter. The incident was caught on camera with commentary from the Spectrum SportsNet broadcast team of Bill Macdonald and Stu Lantz.
“Russ doing some talking to a fan,” Macdonald said. “Hopefully it’s a congenial talk.”
Lantz replied: “Well, whoever the fan was, it looks like he’s being escorted to the exits.”
Macdonald added: “Boy, Russ really had an up-and-down love affair with the fans here when he was a member of the Lake Show.”
Westbrook, 37, spent two seasons with the Lakers from 2021-23. He was back in Los Angeles on Sunday just 24 hours after passing Lakers legend Magic Johnson for seventh on the NBA’s all-time leaderboard for career assists.
Westbrook signed with Sacramento less than a week before the season began, agreeing to a one-year, $3.6 million minimum contract. He was expected to serve as the team’s backup point guard, but he has started 25 of 31 games, averaging 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and a career-high 36.1% from 3-point range.
