Former Kings player had to break bad news to Spurs star Victor Wembanyama
Former Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes had to beak the bad news to San Antonio Spurs teammate Victor Wembanyama when he was ejected from Sunday’s playoff game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The viral video moment occurred after Wembanyama threw an elbow that connected with the head and neck of Timberwolves forward Naz Reid during the second quarter of Minnesota’s 114-109 victory in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals.
It wasn’t hard to read Wembanyama’s lips after an official announced that the foul had been upgraded to a Flagrant 2, resulting in an automatic disqualification.
“What does that mean?” Wembanyama asked Barnes.
“You’re ejected,” Barnes evidently replied.
“I’m ejected?” Wembanyama asked.
Barnes nodded his head. With that, Wembanyama stood up, high-fived some teammates and headed back to the locker room. Minnesota went on to win the game, tying the series at 2-2 going into Game 5 on Tuesday in San Antonio.
Barnes spent six seasons with the Kings before he was sent to San Antonio as part of a three-team sign-and-trade deal that brought DeMar DeRozan to Sacramento in July 2024. Barnes was later joined by former Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox, who was traded to San Antonio in the deal that brought Zach LaVine to Sacramento in February 2025.
