Summer league schedule sets up showdowns for Kings rookie Darius Acuff Jr.
The summer league schedule has set up a number of marquee rookie matchups between Sacramento Kings point guard Darius Acuff Jr. and other top draft picks.
Acuff will go head-to-head with top-10 picks at the California Classic, which will be held July 4-6 in Sacramento, and the NBA Summer League, which will be held July 9-19 in Las Vegas.
The Kings selected Acuff with the seventh pick in the draft. The former Arkansas star will make his Kings debut against the Brooklyn Nets, who selected Louisville point guard Mikel Brown Jr. at No. 6, in the first game of the California Classic July 3 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The Kings will face No. 11 pick Yaxel Lendeborg and the Golden State Warriors on July 5. They will go up against No. 10 pick Brayden Burries and the Milwaukee Bucks on July 6.
Acuff will also have a number of featured matchups at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Each team will play a minimum of five games in Las Vegas. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals.
Schedules for each team’s first four games were unveiled Friday. All four of Sacramento’s games in the preliminary rounds will be played at Thomas & Mack Center, the larger of the two venues in Las Vegas.
The Kings will play the Los Angeles Clippers in their first game on July 9. That sets up a showdown between Acuff and Keaton Wagler, who was selected with the fifth pick in the draft after starring at Illinois.
The Kings will then face No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards on July 12. They will see Brown for a second time when they play the Nets again on July 14.
