Veteran forward re-signing with Sacramento Kings following career year
Precious Achiuwa is going to get his wish after expressing a strong desire to stay in Sacramento following a career year with the Kings.
A league source told The Sacramento Bee that Achiuwa agreed to a new contract with the Kings on Tuesday as free agency was about to begin. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported the veteran forward will return to Sacramento on a two-year, $11.5 million deal. The contract is expected to be finalized when the moratorium ends on July 6.
Achiuwa made it clear that he wanted to remain in Sacramento following the season, saying “I truly, truly love being here.” Achiuwa pointed to the city’s “low-key” vibe and the way Kings coach Doug Christie genuinely cares for his players as people.
Achiuwa, 26, came out of Memphis as the 20th pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He spent the first five years of his career with the Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks.
The Kings signed Achiuwa shortly after the start of the 2025-26 season to strengthen their frontcourt with Keegan Murray sidelined due to a thumb injury. The 6-foot-8, 243-pound power forward made the most of the opportunity, maintaining a positive spirit while playing a key role for a team that struggled with Domantas Sabonis, Zach Lavine and Murray missing much of the season because of injuries.
Achiuwa appeared in 73 games with 57 starts. He averaged a career-high 10.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 52.8% from the field. In 26 games after the All-Star break, Achiuwa posted averages of 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds.
Achiuwa had a season-high 29 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in a Feb. 26 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. He put up 28 points and 19 rebounds in an April 1 win over the Raptors. In the final game of the season, Achiuwa had 27 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
