49ers player Keion White shot in ankle at Super Bowl party. What we know
A San Francisco 49ers player is recovering following surgery for a gunshot wound to his ankle at a post-Super Bowl party, team officials reported.
Keion White, a defensive lineman, was shot at a business on the 1700 block of Mission Street in San Francisco at around 4:06 a.m. Monday, ESPN reported.
A police report said White was hosting a party at a Mission District club when he was shot following an argument involving rapper Lil Baby, The San Francisco Standard said.
White had surgery Monday afternoon, the 49ers told ESPN. His injuries are not considered to be career-threatening.
Here’s what to know:
Who is Keion White?
White, 27, joined the 49ers in 2025 after playing for the New England Patriots since 2023, according to his 49ers team profile.
White attended the University of Old Dominion before transferring to Georgia Tech.
He was a second-round draft pick for the Patriots in 2023, NFL.com said.
In 2025, he recorded six solo tackles and 1.5 sacks, ESPN said.
How did the shooting unfold?
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a business on the 1700 block of Mission Street regarding a shooting, where they located a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers requested paramedics to the scene and the victim was transported to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said their preliminary investigation found that a verbal altercation between two groups inside a business led to shots being fired by an unknown suspect. The Police Department’s Strategic Investigation Unit is handling the investigation. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting took place during a party at Dahlia’s, a bar and nightclub at 1799 Mission St., The Standard said.
White was reportedly hosting a private party downstairs at the club when rapper Lil Baby’s entourage tried to enter the party from the main floor upstairs, the publication said.
White and Lil Baby, whose given name is Dominique Jones, got into an argument, The San Francisco Standard said. A witness told police they heard gunshots after going upstairs to ask for help from the club’s management.
Jones, a Grammy-winning rapper from Atlanta, Georgia, performed in San Francisco over Super Bowl weekend, the publication said.
White is the second 49ers player to get shot in San Francisco in the past two years. Receiver Rickey Pearsall was shot in the chest Aug. 31, 2024 while shopping for luggage in Union Square just before the start of his rookie season. Pearsall avoided life-threatening injuries and made his NFL debut 50 days later, that October.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie addressed the incident on social media.
“Any violent incident in our city is unacceptable, and I’m hoping Keion recovers quickly,” Lurie said on X. “I’ve spoken with SFPD and 49ers leadership — we are all grateful to our SFPD officers for their quick response. As always, I will continue working with San Francisco law enforcement to ensure our neighborhoods and our residents are safe.”
