49ers pregame: Carlos Hyde will miss second straight game
SANTA CLARA -- Carlos Hyde will miss his second straight game with a shoulder injury, likely giving DuJuan Harris his first start since Week 16 last year.
Harris took advantage of that start -- which came on the road against Detroit -- rushing 11 times for 73 yards. But the following week he was relegated to a backup status. Hyde mised the 49ers’ Oct. 23 loss to the Buccaneers. Mike Davis started that game, but Harris ended up with more snaps -- and more yards, 39 -- than Davis. Against Tampa Bay, Harris received 26 snaps, Shaun Draughn had 23 and Davis had 21.
In addition, Mike Purcell, who started the team’s first five games at nose tackle, is inactive for the first time this year. Glenn Dorsey, who is coming back from last year’s ACL injury, will start there for the first time this season. Starters Rashard Robinson (knee) and Aaron Lynch (ankle) did not practice this week. They will be replaced by Jimmie Ward and Eli Harold respectively.
