Three things to watch
IS JIMMY READY?
C.J. Beathard has taken 34 percent of San Francisco’s snaps at quarterback but has been the recipient of 41 percent of the sacks the team has given up. He’s also been hit hard on another half-dozen plays. The rookie is resilient, but the frequency with which he’s been roughed up raises the possibility of an injury that forces newcomer Jimmy Garoppolo into the game.
PROTECT AND SERVE
Cardinals pass rusher Chandler Jones has recorded at least one sack in every game this season but one, Week 4 against the 49ers. The problem for the 49ers is that Jones’ opponent that day, Joe Staley, will miss Sunday’s rematch with a broken orbital bone. Right tackle Trent Brown will make his 2017 debut on the left side where he will go against Jones most of the time.
THE DEEP END
With Jimmie Ward out for the season with a broken arm, Jaquiski Tartt takes over at free safety for the 49ers. Tartt is bigger and more physical than Ward – that’s why he had been playing strong safety – and it will be interesting to see how well he patrols the deep center of the field, a spot the Cardinals are sure to test.
