Meet the 49ers’ late-round draft picks
Blake Bell
Selected: 117th (Round 4)
College: Oklahoma
Position: Tight end
Height, weight: 6-foot-6, 252
Comment: Former quarterback has played tight end for only a year but has the necessary size, toughness.
Mike Davis
Selected: 126th (Round 4)
College: South Carolina
Position: Running back
Height, weight: 5-9, 217
Comment: Workhorse-style runner who has some similarities to former 49er Frank Gore and who, like Gore, enjoys pass protection.
DeAndre Smelter
Selected: 132nd (Round 4)
College: Georgia Tech
Position: Wide receiver
Height, weight: 6-2, 226
Comment: Former baseball player who played college football for only two years. Smelter has a nice combination of size and speed but probably will sit out 2015 after tearing his ACL in November.
Bradley Pinion
Selected: 165th (Round 5)
College: Clemson
Position: Punter, kickoffs
Height, weight: 6-5, 229
Comment: Pinion was arguably the best punter in the draft. Veteran Andy Lee is only 32, but his salary may be too pricey for the 49ers in coming years.
Ian Silberman
Selected: 190th (Round 6)
College: Boston College
Position: Offensive lineman
Height, weight: 6-5, 306
Comment: The 49ers have an opening at left guard this year and perhaps one at right guard next year should Alex Boone leave in free agency in March.
Trenton Brown
Selected: 244th (Round 7)
College: Florida
Position: Offensive lineman
Height, weight: 6-8, 350
Comment: Massive man with a 36-inch reach. Brown weighed as much as 387 pounds in recent years but with a better diet has dropped nearly 30 pounds. He could play tackle with the 49ers after lining up at guard for Florida.
Rory “Busta” Anderson
Selected: 254th (Round 7)
College: South Carolina
Position: Tight end
Height, weight: 6-5, 244
Comment: Fast, athletic tight end who was injured a lot at South Carolina. He’ll compete for a spot at a position that has plenty of question marks beyond this season.
