49ers to have Matt Breida, Dee Ford available for New Orleans Saints game
The 49ers, as expected, are going to get key contributors back healthy in time for Sunday’s pivotal game against the New Orleans Saints.
Pass rusher Dee Ford (hamstring), who has 6.5 sacks, and running back Matt Breida (ankle), the team’s leading rusher, were left off Friday’s status report, which means they’ll be available to play Sunday after missing two and three games, respectively.
Left tackle Joe Staley, who was limited during practice coming off last month’s finger surgery, is listed as questionable but is likely to get his first action since Nov. 11. Richard Sherman wasn’t listed after momentarily leaving last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth quarter with a knee sprain and will play.
San Francisco is as healthy as its been in some time, though the team ruled out two players: safety Jaquiski Tartt (rib fracture) and defensive lineman Jullian Taylor (elbow). The 49ers will start second-year pro Marcell Harris in place of Tartt.
Receivers Dante Pettis (knee) and Marquise Goodwin (knee, foot) were listed as questionable. Pettis returned to practice Thursday for the first time since spraining his knee during practice Nov. 27. Neither have played much recently with Kyle Shanahan’s reliance on Emmanuel Sanders, Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne as the top three receivers.
Goodwin popped up on the status report after not being listed during the week.
“He’s had some wear and tear, some chronic stuff and then it just flamed up enough that we had to list it today,” Shanahan said Friday from IMG Academy. “So when we do that, it’s questionable.”
