Richard Sherman trades barbs with Darrelle Revis on Twitter
Richard Sherman didn’t have any relationship with Darrelle Revis before Sunday night following the NFC Championship game.
But now the two cornerbacks, who are both likely Hall of Famers, can have something to talk about when they both wear their gold jackets down the road. And it might get testy if their conversations go like their interaction Sunday night on Twitter.
Revis, who hasn’t played since 2017, tweeted at Sherman after he was beat for a long reception by Packers star receiver Davante Adams.
He wrote, “Fear of getting beat in man to man coverage. Every snap every play. The fact that he doesn’t travel as a cornerback is lame. Except the challenge as the best and shut Adams down the entire game. Do it for the game of football. Stop hiding a cover 3 zone.”
Sherman, of course, became one of the best cornerbacks of his generation while working predominately in zone coverage schemes with the Seahawks and now 49ers. Revis was more known for his man-to-man cover skills while playing for the Jets, Buccaneers, Patriots and Chiefs during his successful 11 NFL seasons.
Sherman is never one to shy away from criticism, fired back at Revis, retweeting Revis’ criticism with: “I would go in on this has been but I have a Super Bowl to prepare for. Enjoy the view from the couch. Your ninth year looked a lot different than this. Lmao.”
Revis responded: “My 9th year I lead the entire league in turnovers. 5 Ints and 4 Fumble Recoveries. Enjoy the Super Bowl and strap up because this game you will have to cover.”
And Sherman came back with: “I have to cover every game kid. I get my hands on the football in the playoffs something you will never know anything about.”
Sherman effectively ended Sunday’s win over the Packers to advance to the Super Bowl by making a long interception of Aaron Rodgers that allowed the offense to go into victory formation. It was Sherman’s fourth career postseason interception after getting his third last week against the Vikings.
Revis had three.
