The 49ers on Monday added depth at linebacker by agreeing to terms with free agent Joe Walker, a source confirmed to The Bee.

Walker, 27, spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. He played at the University of Oregon. The move was first reported by NFL Network.

San Francisco last week decided against tendering restricted free agent Elijah Lee which could create a chance for Walker to earn a roster spot as a backup and core special teams player.

Walker started 11 games for Arizona last season. He recorded 58 tackles while he was second on the team with 332 special teams snaps.

The 49ers’ current linebacker group includes Fred Warner, Kwon Alexander, Dre Greenlaw, Azeez Al-Shaair and Mark Nzeocha.
