Arik Armstead, the Elk Grove native and 49ers standout defensive lineman, is continuing to serve Sacramento during times of need amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Armstead on Wednesday announced he’ll speak with Sacramento mayor Darrell Steinberg about “Tackling COVID-19” that will stream across social media platforms Friday at 6 p.m.

Armstead, 26, has already pledged to help out local restaurants while stay at home mandates have ravaged the industry by giving away tickets and memorabilia to fans to document their takeout meals on social media. Additionally, his annual red carpet gala has raised over $100,000 for local charities and schools through his foundation, the Armstead Academic Project.

Armstead is coming off a career season as a key member of the 49ers defense that helped the team reach the Super Bowl. He recorded 10 sacks to lead the team before earning a five-year, $85 million contract on the eve of free agency last month.
