The 49ers’ Nick Bosa is carted off the field with leg injury in game against the Jets

The 49ers, who entered Sunday’s game without star tight end George Kittle, cornerback Richard Sherman, receiver Deebo Samuel and pass rusher Dee Ford, may have lost at least one more key player to a significant injury.

Reigning defensive rookie of the year, Nick Bosa, was carted off the field in the first quarter Week 2’s contest against the New York Jets with an apparent left leg injury.

Bosa appeared to get twisted up on a 4-yard run from Frank Gore at the 6:45 mark. Bosa’s leg buckled underneath him as he was fighting off a block from a Jets offensive line. Making things worse, Solomon Thomas, a possible replacement for Bosa, was carted off the field with an apparent left leg injury two snaps later.

Both players were ruled out before the completion of the first quarter.

The injuries left Arik Armstead and Kerry Hyder as the team’s healthy available defensive linemen. Bosa had nine sacks during the 2019 regular season and added for more in three playoff games, including a strip sack of Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
